Buddy Walk
What: The Buddy Walk was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to bring together a wide range of individuals to reach out to friends, family, and co-workers to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down Syndrome and to raise funds for local and national education, research, and advocacy programs. There are more than 270 walks across the country and abroad. In 2007, approximately $9.5 million was raised nationally. This is the 8th annual buddy walk for the Chattanooga Down Syndrome Society.
Last year, CDSS raised $1,300 and had 170 participants. In 2008, we hope to double these amounts!
Where: The Chattanooga Down Syndrome Society's Buddy Walk is held at the Riverview Park off Hixson Pike in Northern Chattanooga.
When: October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month! To celebrate this, the walk is scheduled for October 4th, 2008. Registration begins at 11:00 am, the walk begins at 11:30am, and lunch at 12 noon.
Who: Whether you have Down Syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your care and support - You're a Buddy! Friends, family members, neighbors, businesses, restaurants, students, co-workers, teachers, youth organizations, medical professionals - Now's the time to invite everyone you know!!
Why: The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. After the walk, you and your family/friends will enjoy a pizza luncheon, inflatables, fellowship, and lots of fun!
