About CDSS

CHATTANOOGA DOWN SYNDROME SOCIETY is made up of people who have Down syndrome, their family members, and others who care about them in the Chattanooga region.  We were formerly known as UPPs (United Parents and Professionals) for DownS, although we changed our name a few years ago to become more easily accessible.

We offer periodic mini-conferences on issues pertaining to Down syndrome, send out a newsletter, and also sponsor social events for our membership.  Generally, we have a picnic each spring, and have held events such as cooking lessons for adults with Down syndrome, acting classes, parties, and movie nights, among other things.

Our members with Down syndrome range from babies to adults.  We are further a member organization of the Down Syndrome Policy Network of Tennessee, the National Down Syndrome Society, and the National Down Syndrome Congress.  Although we are an unfunded community group and not a staffed organization, we are willing to provide information and support to members of the community on issues related to Down syndrome.  If you are or care about a person with Down syndrome, we would love to have you as a member of our group!

Three Down syndrome-related bills are going through Congress now and need your help. Tell your Senators and Representatives that you want their support.

21 Act: Trisomy 21 Translational Research Parity Act
ABLE Act: Achieving a Better Life Experience Act
UDL: Universal Design for Learning
