Dream League

Softball league for physically and mentally disabled children and adults ages 4 and up. Teams divided by age groups. A Spring activity that starts about the end of March. All games are played at Rivermount Park in Hickson, Tennessee.

Home-Based Exercise Program

Lisa Boyette is seeking special needs clients interested in personal training to establish individualized home-based exercise plans. This exercise program will help motivate the individual to adhere to regular exercise that will benefit his or her health. An exercise session will typically include warm-up exercises, core training, strength training, cardiovascular training, and cool-down exercises. Lisa enjoys working with special needs children and wants to use her expertise and knowledge of exercise barriers and motivators in establishing exercise plans for clients that will be enjoyable as well as of great benefit in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Lisa is a certified school psychologist and has worked in the CDC classroom at the Signal Mountain middle/high school as a paraprofessional for the past four years. She has conducted research in exercise programming for other special populations for 15 years, where her main research area was in the area of exercise adherence. Her exercise programming research has included research grants in strength training, functional ability, and exercise program designs. She has also written numerous articles in referred journals pertaining to these areas.

Sibling Celebration - June 26, 2008

Brothers and sisters of children with disabilities will soon have a unique opportunity to attend a fun event designed just for them. Sib Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 26th, at Coolidge Park beginning at 5:30pm and ending at 8:45pm. It is targeted for children ages 8 through 13. The purpose of Sib Celebration is to provide siblings of children who have disabilities to express themselves in a supportive peer environment, offer opportunities to engage in recreational activity, and foster social relationships with children who are in similar situations. Sponsors are Signal Centers, The City of Chattanooga Department of Parks and Recreation, the Tennessee Early Intervention System, and Siskin Children's Institute.
